Aspiring Workshop leader, this post is for you

You have No idea on how to plan, organise, or construct a workshop? No panic! Here are a few advices, tips, suggestions which will hopefully be useful for you, readers. Enjoy the reading of this short and schematic explanation.

These bullet points are certainly basic, yet I personally believe they are practical.

Topic

What is your workshop about, what is the core idea? These are the questions you should be able to answer.

You probably have thousands of ideas, thoughts, concepts running through your mind but can’t figure out exactly where to start or how to control your flow of ideas.

2 Methods (tested and approved)

-Session of brainstorming Alone + with the help of coordinators, coworkers…

Outcome: Mindmap (great visualisation), Collection of ideas

-Discuss and ask around to find inspiration

Outcome: broader view, external and unbiased opinion

2 requirements you must fulfill to give life to a workshop (or any talk):

-Topic discussed must be suitable for your target group, otherwise you won’t be able to find purpose in your workshop+ impossible to figure out how to engage the audience + might be demoralising

Passion and understanding of the topic covered. There is a Real need + demand for passionate workshop host

Creation

Now that your mind is made up, let’s move on to the creation process.

This new step can be summarised in three words:

Organization

Prepare a draft , organise the different chapters you wish to include, come up with a design

Originality

Be ambitious, find new and interactive ways to engage with the public, don’t limit yourself to existing methods

Clarity+Consitency

Please for everyone’s sake, including yours, avoid information overload, in other words, keep things simple and relevant.

Practice

Last but not least, rehearse your script and try to create a realistic setting in which you can potentially be asked to conduct a workshop.
