Sooo süß – Woche 7 —– deutsche Übersetzung weiter unten
This Thursday was not a normal Thursday, no, it was Fat Thursday! This is a day, on which the people eat a lot of Donuts and other cookies and cakes. It is before the period of fasting begins and in Poland the people really get crazy on this day (of course in a lovely way). On the street almost every second person has a Pączki (polish donut) in its hands. It is really funny. At work we ate a lot on this day. Every group of age got their own plate of sweets and the parents and grandparents brought sweets, too. After my lessons I was so full and had enough sweets for the next weeks or at least for the next hours ;D.
At the weekend I travelled with friends from my on-arrival to Krakow. We visited volunteers living there and discovered the city. Between Krakow and Warsaw are some disputes, because Krakow was once the capital of Poland before Sigismund declared Warsaw as the capital in 1596. On the other hand in the Second World War Krakow was not destroyed in opposite to Warsaw, where 85% of the buildings were destroyed. Therefore Warsaw is a bit jealous. And there are a lot of things and myths more why Warsaw doesn’t like Krakow and other way round… But I like both cities. Krakow is a really beautiful city. It is smaller and thanks to the old buildings more cozy than Warsaw. Otherwise it is really touristic and concentrated on tourism. And as I came back to Warsaw I was really happy. I missed the big city – a city full of life. All in all I would say Krakow is a place for weekends or holidays for me, but I prefere to live in Warsaw. But anyway it is worth it to visit Krakow. Dieser Donnerstag war kein gewöhnlicher Donnerstag, nein, es war “Tłusty czwartek” oder in Deutschland auch “Schmotziger Donnerstag” genannt. Es ist der letzte Donnerstag bevor die Fastenzeit beginnt und in ganz Polen wird dieser Tag groß mit Pfannkuchen (Berliner) und anderem süßen Gebäck gefeiert. Auf der Straße hatte jeder Zweite die berühmten pączki in den Händen. Auch auf Arbeit haben wir mit jeder der drei Kindergruppen süßes Gebäck gegessen, so dass ich danach pappsatt und vollkommen überzuckert war – doch das gehört wohl auch zu dieser Tradition dazu.
Am Wochenende fuhr ich mit anderen Freiwilligen meines On-Arrivial-Trainings nach Krakau. Zwischen Krakau und Warschau herrscht eine gewisse Rivalität. Einerseits sind die Krakauer gekränkt, dass König Siegmund die Hauptstadt 1596 von Krakau nach Warschau verlegte. Andererseits sind die Warschauer eifersüchtig auf Krakaus Überleben im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Während Warschau zu ca. 85 % zerstört wurde, blieb Krakau unversehrt. Nichtsdestotrotz mag ich beide Städte. Krakau ist eine wunderschöne Stadt mit vielen alten Häusern. Ich habe ein schönes Wochenende dort verbracht und habe vor auf jeden Fall nochmal wiederzukommen. Und doch bin ich glücklich in Warschau zu leben. Ich bin froh über das Großstadtgefühl und die Freiheit die es mir gibt. Allerdings ist Krakau auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert und ich würde es jedem empfehlen. Ein paar Eindrücke habe ich in dem Video gesammelt.
Krakau
Eine Stadt, die die Geschichte überlebte,
und sich eine eigene webte.
Ein alter Markthalle,
vom Kirchturm hört man Trompetengeschalle.
Alte Kirchen und wunderschöne Gebäude,
ein Drache beschützt diese Stadt mit Freude.
So wie ein Reiter auf seinem Ross,
steht auf dem Berg Wawel das weltbekannte Schloss.
