Days in Danzig

After I had a workshop in Olsztynek I decided to visit my friend Arkadiusz in Gdansk. It was a nice workshop in this city and afterwards the headmaster of the school showed us the town and the town museum. Therefor I know now that a memorial for Hindenburg (Reichspräsident of Germany and not for famous airship which exploded, but the airship was named after him) was built and after the second world war, the memorial was used for rebuilding Warsaw after the second world war.

The route for the way was Warszawa-Olsztynek-Olsztyn-Gdansk. All the travels was made by train and to be honest I am very pleased with the polish train system, in comparison with some other train companies in Europe (DB, it was always late and in Austria I had to wait some many times because a German train was late). I meet with my friend Aro, we went together to high school in Austria. Now he is studying in Gdansk IT.

When I arrived in Gdansk, the first thing we did was to buy an air bed for me, because he just moved there in September, otherwise I would have to sleep on the floor.  After the successful shopping tour, we went to his flat which is on the 17 floor. There the view above the city was amazing. Afterwards he showed me the city centre. It is really a lovely city, I really enjoyed it a lot, the old town is incredible beautiful.

Then we decided to have one or two drinks somewhere. After a lot of people who tried to convince us to enter to their location, most of them asked us to enter to their strip clubs which was quite annoying. Nevertheless, we found a suitable location, which was not a strip club. It was a nice shot bar, and after some  drinks, I was able to have a conversation in polish with a girl. The alcohol might help but I think I really improved my skills. I might not understand everything, but I got the context. Otherwise I had my personal translator Aro with me, who could help me out.

The night was quite short, because on the next day we had a lot of activities to do. We went to Sopot by train. There we visited the Pier (Molo w Sopocie), the longest wooden pier in Europe. Besides the fact that it was quite windy and cold, it was superb. In summer this place must be so amazing. Maybe I should have worn warmer clothes and as the day continues, this wish becomes stronger and stronger. I was the first time on the Baltic sea in my life and hopefully not the last time.

As the day continued, we went also to Gdynia. There we just walked through the city centre to the port. Even though Aro lives in Gdansk he was also the first time in Gdynia. At the port there were a lot of quite impressive ships. Unfortunately, it started to rain and at this moment I regret my choice of cloths. The way back to the train station wasn’t the best part, but still enjoyable. Then we went back to Gdansk and I took my stuff from Aro’s flat. I started my journey to Warsaw.

I was there for not even two full days but nevertheless it was such an awesome trip. I discovered so many new places and experienced a lot and had a great time with a good friend. For sure it won’t be my last trip to Danzig.
