I started this project 4 months ago, in October 2019. I am Carla, I am 24 years old and I finished my university master’s degree in May.I was ahead of a year without plans before applying again for another university master’s degree.
“Carla, you can’t spend a year doing nothing.” – I told myself.
I had already heard about what an EVS was, I met someone who had done it and I thought it could be a good opportunity to live a new experience.
As a psychologist, I started looking for projects based on 2 standards: the dates I had available and that it was a project that would be useful for my CV. I found everything: projects without any relation to psychology, projects for which I did not meet sufficient requirements, and a long etc.
I contacted Schumann and tried to investigate the foundation further. It gave me great vibes! That’s why I continued with the process (documents, Skype interview …), until I was notified of the admission.
Before telling you how my 4 months have been so far, I would like to give you some advice for your search:
- Find a project that appeals to you and where you think you can feel comfortable doing the job.
- Know well the requirements and conditions
- Do not be afraid! Even if you don’t know the language or don’t know much English (how was my case). With patience and an open mind you will be able to move forward very fast.
- Look for information about the place (city, town, culture, communication with other cities …). If you are a dynamic person who likes to interact and make many plans, I advise you a big city, that will give you many more opportunities.
- Try not to put yourself barriers. Do the search with an open mind and if you have a chance, contact a former volunteer to tell you about their experience and advise you.

Hace 4 meses que empecé este proyecto, en octubre de 2019. Soy Carla, tengo 24 años y acabé en mayo mi máster universitario. Se me presentaba por delante un año sin planes antes de volver a solicitar plaza para otro máster universitario.
“Carla, no puedes estar un año sin hacer nada.” – me dije a mi misma.
Ya había oído hablar de lo que era un SVE, conocí alguna persona que lo había hecho y consideré que podría ser una buena oportunidad para vivir una nueva experiencia.
Como soy psicóloga, me puse a buscar proyectos en base a 2 normas: las fechas que tenía disponibles y que fuese un proyecto que me fuese útil para mi CV.
Encontré de todo: proyectos sin ninguna relación con la psicología, proyectos para los cuales no cumplía requisitos suficientes, y un largo etc. Contacté con Schumann y traté de investigar más a fondo la fundación. Me dio muy buenas vibraciones! Por eso continué con el proceso (documentos, entrevista de skype…), hasta que me avisaron de la admisión.
Antes de contarte como han sido mis 4 meses hasta ahora, me gustaría darte algún consejo para tu búsqueda:
1- Busca un proyecto que te atraiga y donde creas que puedes sentirte a gusto haciendo el trabajo.
2- Infórmate bien de los requisitos y condiciones
3- ¡No tengas miedo! Incluso si no conoces el idioma o no sabes mucho inglés (cómo fue mi caso). Con paciencia y una mente abierta conseguirás avanzar muy rápido.
4- Busca información sobre el lugar (ciudad, pueblo, cultura, comunicación con otras ciudades…). Si eres una persona dinámica a la que le gusta relacionarse y hacer muchos planes, te aconsejo una ciudad grande, eso te dará muchas más oportunidades.
5- Trata de no ponerte barreras a ti mismo. Haz la búsqueda con una mente abierta y si tienes posibilidad, contacta con algún ex-voluntario para que te cuente su experiencia y te aconseje.
