Evolution: School

The school, your project in your ESC is one of the main parts in your volunteer period. 5 months ago I started a new experience in the Primary School 318 and I think that I experienced a big evolution during this time.

I remember that I arrived here with the knowledge of someone that has just finished the university. I finish my degree as a teacher just one month before I came here so to be honest it was difficult to support some experience in the school because I just did some internships during my studies. I arrived here with the illusion to learn, improve, and know more about not only education and teaching If not know more about how is the system here in Poland. I´m a really critic person and I like to analyze everything.

It was amazing just see how I was received there in the school. It really was like someone from other planet arrived there. I didn’t know so much Polish so it was difficult for me just the communication with the children. But now, looking this with perspective, I can say that it’s amazing just see how every have changed in my daily life in the school, even sometimes I can talk more or less a simple conversation with the children in polish so for me it’s a great improve. In the other hand, for them it was a great motivation just to see me there and some of the old ones tried to learn more about my culture my life, etc. Now I’m like another teacher there that sometimes has lessons but it still being cool.

Talking about the experience and the activities that I have done, that goes from a theatre play in polish or going to a cooking lessons during the winter break. The experience was amazing. During a whole week I was making popcorn and selling them for take money for a benefic cause. For Saint Nicholas children prepare some gifts and I participated there. I received one avocado socks and a guide for learn polish! We prepare some design about Christmas to put in the doors and we were preparing them with the children. Moreover, during the first semester I was preparing one project with one boy from 8th class about the food and costumes in Spain and compare them with the polish ones. I learnt too much there. Just playing with the kids every day I could learn a lot.

But to be honest, one of the things that I most appreciate here is how the relation with my coordinator, Martyna or with other teachers has been grown. Thanks of them I could learn many about Poland, about their diary life or just improve my skills and my experience in education. I could meet the family of my Spanish teacher and he invited me to have a lunch with them. It was an amazing experience. Or sometimes I go with him to play volleyball with him and his friends. I’m really glad that this project gave to me so many experiences like these.

Summing up, these five months was good for everything. I could learn more about the education system here in Poland, more about the language and culture and of course I had the opportunity to improve my skills as a teacher, to know more about how to treat and deal with children with special needs. In conclusion, I grow up as a person in all the senses. Education means evolution.
