My ESC Volunteering Journey in Poland 🇵🇱✨
Hi everyone! I’m Lana from Azerbaijan, and I want to share a little about one of the most meaningful chapters of my life – my ESC volunteering experience in Poland.
My adventure started on October 7, 2024, and lasted until July 31, 2025. Looking back now, it feels like those months were filled with countless little moments that changed me in big ways.I volunteered in Warsaw with Szansa, a local association focused on developing activities for children. My tasks were as colorful as the kids I worked with – I organized educational and entertaining events, visited schools and preschools, and conducted workshops. During these workshops, I presented my country and its culture through games, presentations, and handcrafting activities. It was such a joy to see the kids’ curious faces when they learned something new about Azerbaijan. Their smiles, funny questions, and genuine interest were the best rewards I could ask for.My volunteering journey also took me beyond Warsaw. I traveled to other cities like Końskie and Gdynia, where I organized activities during Europe Day and other events. In Końskie, I had the privilege of staying with a local host family who were incredibly kind and welcoming. Their warmth made me feel at home despite being far from my own.

It was my first time living abroad, my first time being so independent, and my first time staying away from my family and friends for such a long period. Of course, there were moments of homesickness and challenges, but they were all part of the journey. Those tough moments made the good ones shine even brighter.Another amazing part of this experience was being surrounded by volunteers from different countries. The multicultural environment taught me so much – not only about Polish culture but also about the cultures of my fellow volunteers. I truly enjoyed being part of this diverse team where everyone brought something unique to the table.

Before this project, I used to think that working with kids would be difficult. But after spending so much time with them, I realized how rewarding it can be. They have this incredible energy that can turn any bad day around. The way they appreciated and enjoyed the activities I prepared for them filled my heart with happiness. Thanks to this opportunity, I learned to make precious connections, to see the good in people, and to appreciate the beauty in small, sincere efforts. I also got the chance to travel to many places, both in Poland and beyond, discovering the world and myself along the way.

If you’re thinking about doing an ESC volunteering project – go for it! There is a wide range of activities to choose from, so you’ll definitely find something that fits you. It’s not just volunteering; it’s an experience that will shape you, teach you, and stay with you forever.
This journey showed me how even the smallest acts of kindness and effort can bridge big gaps and create something truly meaningful. I’m grateful that I took this step, and I’ll always carry these memories with me. To anyone reading this – don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone. You never know how much beauty you’ll find on the other side.
