Now are holidays in Poland and therefore our schedule changes. Not all families can afford to go to holidays on the seaside, parents have to work or don’t want to travel in times of Corona. Therefore schools are open and provide entertainment for children. Teachers are there, but also volunteers like us.
Last week I was in three different schools each with one or two groups of students. I went there together with Natallia (other Schuman volunteer) and Wiktor and Wiktoria from Szansa. It was really nice to have their help with translating into Polish.
In the beginning we showed the children what it means to be a volunteer and in what a big range of different work volunteering finds place.
Then I did a short presentation about Germany, talking about landscape, food and sport. It was really interesting to see how much they already knew for example how the flag looks like or some typical food like black forest cake.
Afterwards I taught them some basic German sayings – it was soooo cute to hear them speaking German.
After Natallia showed a nice Belarusian video, we played different games. For example fruit salad game, in which the children learn in a funny way German names of some fruits.
In the end we did a Europe puzzle and talked with the children about the countries in which they were already.
